Lightning Detector

The MBO lightning detector is located in the RAG rack, the main unit is based on an available electronics kit, but has been modified to trigger an opto-coupler to enable a Raspberry-Pi to log counts and to generate daily JSON files with the number of counts logged with time.

The system uses an external whip antenna mounted on the MBO cabin eaves.

The purpose of the lightning detector is primarily for cross-checking the effect of lightning storms on other instruments.
